Default Posting recipe files for easy import

It appears we can no longer attach BSM or ProMash files for easy recipe import. This forces everyone to print out text which then forces anyone interested to go through the lengthy process of entering into their own system. I feel like we're in the 1980s using a BBS over a 9600 baud modem! How about letting people attach BeerXML files which is the defacto standard or at a minimum allowing people to attach whatever file they want (with given size restrictions of course) as long as the extension is changed to TXT?

This forum is amazing in so many ways, but this restriction strikes at the heart of sharing beer related information at a deep level and would seem to go against exactly what this forum is made for. There MUST be a better way...

It would be nice if vendors supported the beerXML (or other) standardized format also so we can upload ingredients lists to them directly instead of re-typing the list each time we place an order.

Yes, that would help a lot. XML.

Any idea what get's left out when a beersmith 2 file is exported as xml? I don't care if a recipe contains a photo of the beer (alright, that would be cool).

.XML would be extremely helpful as it would allow BeerXML files to be attached. BeerXML is the standard across many beer software programs.

.BSM (BeerSmith v1) and .BSMX (BeerSmith v2) would be helpful but not critical since both versions support BeerXML.

.REC (ProMash) would be helpful for many folks especially since it does not support BeerXML.

Nope, no idea. I figured we'd be covered with beerXML but I didn't know for sure so I also requested these Beersmith specific formats just to be safe.

How about an answer?

Virus issues can be resolved and have already been talked about at length.

The search function has not revealed any answers. There is not a sticky. Help.

I think this would be a win-win for everyone involved. Don't make HBT responsible for promoting any one type of file format, let the open market decide what is best. Allow the OP of the recipe to attach his own file of choice. The software vendor wins because a program is used more often. HBT wins because more folks access this site. The home brewer wins because it's much easier to brew a recipe.

Don't get involved in promoting 1 software over another. Help ME the brewer. If I win, so will you.

If a standard is developed.................... yeah.................. if instead, importing happens....................... whatever........................... Make my life easier! Or don't, I'll adjust.

XML is a standard and since it's text and non-executable should be innocuous.
I'll join the movement.
