So last week I brewed an IPA (got a kit online, don't remember which.)

Long story short, my oak chips caught on fire and I decided to throw them away.

Will my IPA be drastically different without the oak chips that it initially would have been?

Thanks

I would like to hear this "long story" about flaming oak chips.
Your beer will be different, but most IPAs are not oaked, so its all good.

+ 1 to the long story.

But try the beer, and maybe try again with the oak chips to compare.

Haha, thanks for the help. I'm sure it'll be fine, I was just curious.

For those curious I was steaming the chips, as per instructions, to sterilize them. I may have put them on the stove too soon and forgot about them in the hullabaloo involved with transferring the wort from my boil pot to my carboy. The pot that the chips were in to steam ran out of water and the temp in the pot got high enough that allowed for all of the pot's contents to spontaneously combust. Thus my oak chips caught on fire!

Dang, too bad. I've had a couple oaked IPAs and they are delicious. Cigar City Brewing in Tampa does one called Jai Alai and it is amazing.
