I am planning on using swamp cooler on my next brew, I have a read that a lot of people use regular 20 oz bottles to control the temp but they have to switch them out a few times a day to keep the temp down. Does any use half gallon or full gallon jugs to maintain a constant temp longer or would that drop the temp too low for an ale?

Get one of those $2 stickers from your brew store that tells you your beers temp and slap it on the carboy (not a part that would be submerged).

If this isn't feasible, measure the water temperature. You can estimate the beer will be around 10 warmer. I ferment my beer in the 60's and the fermenting chamber is set at 55.
