Default Volume confusion?

This is my recipe formulated in Beersmith. How can my boil volume be less than my batch size and bottling volume. Forgive me if this is a dumb question

I think those referring to the volume of the container they are in. I.e

6.5 gallons carboy for fermenting and 6.25 gallons for bottling
