Default Cheap Wort Cooler

I'm considering buying a light duty transmission cooler to use as a immersion wort cooler. Anyone ever done this?

What, like taking the copper tubes out of a radiator?

I'd think they would use cheaper lead based solders for those. Seen them used as a glycol prechiller.

I am sure that a transmission cooler/necessary parts would be more expensive than the pre-made copper coils available at my brewstore. You can make your own for even cheaper, and no need to worry about non-food safe materials.
