Default My tap handles - aluminum hex bar

I've had this aluminum hex bar sitting around forever, and I finally found a project for it:

I wish I still had a lathe, because it'd be nice to turn down the ends, but I think they look pretty cool, anyway.

I think I'm going to dovetail one or both of the sides next to the logo so I can put a strip of paper with the beer name/type in it. I'll likely just go with a single dovetailed side unless someone here comes up with a great reason to bracket the logo with labels (which will look cluttered, IMHO).

I'm not sure what color to make them. I can choose from:

Black - gloss, matte, wrinkle
White - gloss
Red - gloss
Silver vein - a dark gray hammertone looking finish that has flecks of silver in it - looks pretty cool

I want to inlay the letters. At the moment, I'm leaning toward black wrinkle with white letters. Red letters might look cool, but maybe a little too funky. White with black letters would be sharp, but maybe a little too art deco.

Opinions?

Would silver vein match your marble you have below the taps? If so I would go with that with either white (may not be enough contrast?) or red inlay.

I say dovetail one side. I agree that both sides seems overkill and would clutter the design.

Cool tap handle BTW! I just ordered a few tap inserts and am looking for something to turn into handles for my bar. I'm sick of saying "Yeah grab an IPA its on the Budweiser tap"!

Good idea with the silver vein - it would likely complement the granite very well. It's very dark, so white letters would provide plenty of contrast.

I'm all but convinced on the silver vein.

How are you finishing it? Sounds like might be powdercoating it. If so are those just the colors you've narrowed it down to? I like the idea of the silver vein. Bright blue or red letters with the vein would be awesome.

I'm powder coating them. Those are the colors I have on hand. I'm not convinced to do red lettering yet, but I'll definitely consider it.

It took a while to dovetail the label slots, but they look great so far.

I'm drilling and tapping them right now, and I hope to have them finished before bedtime.

I'd go with black lettering against the silver vain. Tie in with the granite and black rings behind the taps.

Black lettering won't show up against the silver vein. It's a dark gray base. I don't think I'll finish the letter inlay tonight, but I'm about to lay down the silver vein. Pics in a bit.

I had a hard time getting a good picture, but here they are. I did three with the label dovetail on the left side of the engraving and three with the dovetail on the right. I'll color the lettering another day. Like I said, the silver vein is really dark - almost black in the pictures. I think it does work well with the granite, though. Thanks for the suggestion!
