I've not made a Lager before, but I have 20 litres brewing in the spare room. Fermentation is ridiculously erratic - airlock bubbles are uncountable, and when opened, the beer is "fizzing" and moving like hot lava. I shouldn't have a problem with overflow because I've got plenty of headroom in the bucket.

Is this totally normal? Don't wanna ruin the carpets, you see

I haven't yet brewed with lager yeast, but violent and turbulent fermentations are common with ale yeast. Lots of swirling and churning. With ale, you might need a blowoff tube during high krausen. With a lager being a bottom fermenter, I'm guessing you're fine if you have enough head space in the fermentor.

what temperature are you fermenting at? and what type of lager yeast are you using. Usually they are fermented cooler than normal ambient temperatures
