It's funny, cuz the last thing I listen to in music is the vocals. If the music is working, I'm usually happy. Sure, I appreciate really good vocals and bad ones can really turn me off, but it's definitely not something I pick and choose by. When it comes to the musicianship, just one amazing or awful player can make or break a band for me.

I find 'poetic' lyrics to be one of the most important things about a song. It's fine if I'm just jamming to it while I work, but I also like to be able to listen to the same music on it's own and unravel the lyrics like a prosaic puzzle. One of the reasons I love Poets of the Fall on my non-metal days (which, admittedly, are few).

Oh hells yes. Tommy Karevik was such a perfect fit for Kamelot, great stage presence live. Stepped into the role like a hand in a glove.

I still look back on the things Roy Khan did with them before he left and it blows my mind, though:

I really enjoy Karevik's work with Seventh Wonder, every bit as much as his work with Kamelot:

I've been listening to too many chick rockers... In This Moment and Halestorm come to mind right away.

They put on good live shows too!

Two albums you should not miss...

Delain and Crystal Viper also put out really good records in 2012.
