Default hydrometer

Again back, a question about my 1st batch.
As bottling time approaches i want to take some hydrometer readings, do I simply pull off the top of my fermenting bucket and grab a sample to measure then close the lid again.
I would sanitize the measuring and retrieving equipment first .

Thank you in advance.

Yes, that will work. Careful not to splash or contaminate the Lid and do it fairly quick. Some people take the airlock off and can get into the bucket from this opening too. Just depends on your setup and the size of your retriever mechanism.
