I am starting to put together my electric brewery, here's a question:

Are there any problems with mounting the drain port as coming out of the bottom? I see so few systems doing this, and yet it seems like a good way to virtually eliminate dead space?

Thanks

There's no problem with it as far as I know. I don't think you see it that often because many folks convert their existing propane kettles into electric kettles, so the ports are already on the side to begin with.

You are probably right on that. Most people do not contend with -40 degree winters, so gas would be a logical step for them.

Thought about a bottom drain, limits the placement of the kettle to where it can sit. A properly installed dip tube will drain the kettle within a cup or less of empty so I went with that.

a cup or less, wow, I was thinking it might be at least half a gallon, which is the current deadspace in the turkey fryer
