I made the mistake of listening to some wrong advice last year(first year) and cut them back to 1 bine per plant. Don't do that, I basically have brand new plants this year because they didn't get enough energy last year. Right now they just sprouted and I have between 2 and 4 buds coming up from each rhizome (1 cascade, 1 centennial, 1 chinook). I am letting all the vines grow this year.

After the harvest in the fall the vines will die off you can cut them at the soil and leave all the leaves and stems on the ground to compost over winter. Next Spring new shoots will pop up.
