Are those "craft" brews put out by the big boys all-malt beers, or do they follow their usual mashing procedures with the usual percentage of adjuncts, I wonder?

I had the AB Mule Kick oatmeal stout a few weeks ago. It was served ice cold (grr), so it was hard to tell, but it tasted like an oatmeal stout and seemd to have an appropriate body (i.e. not a MBC-ish insanely low FG). I wonder if they accomplish this by using an all-malt grainbill, or by other means (like high mash temps).

Sorry but my answer would be, I don't care.

I wouldn't give them my money and I would not drink it super chilled.
My money goes to the micro/craft breweries and a place that serves ale at a propper temperature.

Do you need a Midol, Orfy?

Seriously, I wouldn't bother drinking this either--I was at a restaurant with a very limited selection and didn't even realize it was an AB product when I ordered it.

The inappropriate serving temp was just an added bonus.

Well, it's a start, at least. Hopefully, this means the mega brewers are realizing that consumers do care what the product tastes like

I've never tried or even heard of that particular stout, so i can't comment on that. I would hope that they use quality malts and grains. Otherwise, their wasting their time and money. A large company should have the capabilities to do good research on consumer tastes, and therefoere, brew a quality "craft" brew for that niche.
Edit: Then again, I can also see them still finding ways to cut costs.

I have had Blue Moon, though, which is decent. I don't think I'm too fond of the belgian styles, but that was certainly good for a BMC brand.

I'm not being funny about it. Not having a pop at you.
I would just rather give my money to the real beer breweries.

I know that If I go off my beaten track I'll probably be dissapointed and I have access to enough good beer to not have to drink poor beer.

Yeah, I like Blue Moon, it's not bad at all. Haven't had the stout though, but it sucks that they served it so cold. Drives me insane when they do that.
