Still working on the hole in my HLT to mount a water heater element. According to my step bit, I am up to 1.25", but the element still won't fit.

How big a hole is that supposed to be?

I picked up a set of the Harbor Freight punches, so I won't have to drill a hole this big again, hopefully.

1.25" should be correct for standard elements. Which element are you using?

1.25" is what I just used for my newest set up. It just fit with some slight turning in and I ground the hole ever so slightly to make it work easier.

did you measure with a ruler, don't trust the accuracy of step bits!
