What can be used to hold the yeast starter? Is it really necessary to use a glass container. Why not a two liter soda bottle. I know it is not PET but since the yeast will only be in it for about 2 days and the positive pressure produced by the yeast how could oxygen come through the bottle to spoil the starter?

I am sure the soda bottle would be fine...but why not just use a large beer bottle...chances are you have one of those lying around, right?

1 quart mason jars work well for me. For bigger beers, I have 1/2 and 1 gallon jugs that I use.
