Default Lowes 5 Gallon grey buckets are NOT food grade.

Thought I would post a thread for anyone who might be questioning this.

Lowe's grey 5 gallon HDPE 2 buckets are NOT food grade. They are from the Econo-Blend line which are not food grade. See link below.

http://www.e-encore.com/FAQPails.html

I found this out by searching the model number of the grey buckets sporting the Lowe's logo. I took a picture of the model number from my local Lowe's (but I don't think I'm allowed to post it because I'm a free member of the forum) showing the model number (Model 57640). See link below for description of model and that it belongs to Econo-Blend line. (Scroll to "Industrial Pales", then Model 57640)

Just wanted post this thread so that anyone (like me) will know for sure that these particular buckets are not food grade.

Someone on this thread:

http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/home...19/index2.html

said that the Homer's and Lowe's buckets are sourced regionally, not nationally. The ones I get from Lowe's are made by Encore - I've been paying the extra $ for the translucent white ones.

The ones I am referring to are the Encore brand as well. I am not sure if they are sourced regionally or not. However, I can say to find out for sure, look at the model number (on the Lowe's price tag on the shelf, look in the lower right hand corner), and if it is Model 57640... which the ones here are... these are not food grade. From what I've found, the Encore 5 gallon "Mix-N-Measure" translucent buckets are food grade.
