We did a mild swap a few years back- here: http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f38/proj...th-10-a-77758/

That was my first experience with milds. And I was hooked! Mine was around 3.5% ABV, and a great beer. I used Jamil's recipe from Brewing Classic Styles, and enjoyed it very much.

Sometimes it is the differences that will stand out if everything else is brewed the same so judges may be tempted by the 'different' one.

We can't forbid anyone entrance into the HBT competition, or course. I'm not sure the hops are going to come through too much anyway and I'm sure the differences between everyone's batch with the same recipe will differ as much from each other as will one made to the same recipe except for the hops. It will only add more data to the comparison we can do after the comp.

See first post. I have no dog (beer) in this fight and don't care. Just pointing out that the rules were already posted.

The whole point of the exercise is to brew the same exact recipe and see how differently it comes out. If you're changing up the recipe, then it's not going to work.

So the fermentation schedule is just 10 days in primary then bottle? Cold crash somewhere in ther to help clarity or is it supposed to be a little cloudy?

Let me get this straight. Are you guys proposing to deny someone entry into a public contest because their beer doesn't conform to a certain recipe? The whole point is actually to compare feedback after the comp to see how differently they come out. Having additional entries into the public competition won't affect our ability to do that. If someone's recipe differs slightly, then we can either not include their feedback in the comparison, or use it as an additional data point to see how small changes like the hop difference came through in the feedback. We may find that that beer is more similar to some of the other beers that matched the recipe than others made to the same recipe.

No, because it doesn't conform to the RULES. You are completely altering what the people that formed this competition are attempting to accomplish because someone is short some fuggle hops? If you have different aims my I suggest you hold your own? Can I send a stout? It is just a different recipe too? See the difference? Altering the recipe is altering the very purpose of holding this competition.

Again, the people organizing this wanted ONE variable. Start throwing in more and their reason to do this is shot. No one is forced to enter this and anyone is free to hold a different contest with their own rules if they don't like the ones laid out.

Oh the irony......
