Alright, I might have a problem.

So I am a beginner at home brewing(actually tried to make my first batch today). But I took the advice of my neighbor, who sais that he has brewed many a time, and he suggested that I add the sugar to the wort before I add the yeast. So I did this, and now I am reading that you are sopposed to do it as priming, right before bottling. Help would be greatly appriciated.

how much did you add?

sugar can be added at various times through out the process. The part you read about (priming) is for when you bottle so you dont have flat beer. If you add it before that (boiling or fermenting process) you boost up the ABV.

If you can post the recipie and how much sugar you added

It was the recipe for a amber. 5 gallons. I added 5.8 lbs of amber malt, 1 cup of sugar, and a packet of hops pellets. I havent added the yeast yet, but it hasnt cooled down enough for that part.

Yeah, that sugar is added just before bottling. No big deal except you need to get more sugar in a couple of weeks.

It wasn't enough to worry about.

Welcome!!

Hey, thanks a lot! Alright, well, should I add another 1 cup for the pre-bottleing prime? or more? I'm guessing just the same.

Yes. The 3/4 C corn sugar is for making carbonation.

Some people prefer it in their beer... Joking with you...
