i was wondering how to resize a recipe. is there a tool or chart available for this? i'd like to try a gallon of porter and some others to see how they are, anyone know where the resources are for this?

You can pretty much scale everything in a linear fashion without any problems.

will boiling time be reduced?!

At one gallon, you will want to do a full wort boil. same boiling time but adjust with enough water to factor in evaporation.

Same boiling time as time is an important factor in the bittering process, but start with 5 quarts.
