Default Sugar Maple Chips

Has anyone ever played with other kinds of wood, specifically sugar maple chips in their beers?

Not yet, but I have some aged sugar maple that I'm thinking about toasting to use in either my beer or mead (or both)... I also have some black cherry that I could toast up...

Thread resurrection - A friend suggested "oaking" with maple chips today. He wants to get a bit of maple flavour out of it, but he'll also be using dark maple syrup or extract at least, too. Has anybody done this?
