I am wanting to get started smoking meats for the family nothing crazy. Anyone know what would be a good smoker to start with and to just get into smoking?

If you don't mind a little bit of DIY, and I mean a little, look into building a UDS.

You can google "UDS" and come up with tons of hits or look at www.bbq-brethren.com and they are very popular on there.

I can get fifteen hours @ 225 with one bag of charcoal and six chunks of hickory.

Cookshack smokers are very easy to use and the end product is great.
