The 1st annual MR Beer Challenge!!!!!
Final Gravity Podcast announces our first contest.....Here's the deal if you currently brew using Mr Beer,Great!!! you should have everything you need.
If you are an AG brewer get yourself a mr beer kit and brew up a couple gallons

RUles:
Brew a Mr beer kit sized batch ,up to 2 gallons
send 2 12 oz bottles or 1 22oz.
You MUST use "Mr beer kit" LME
you dont have to use "booster or the "mr beer" yeast
You SHOULD use mr beer fermenter,but another fermenter will work
You can add steeping grains or sugars if you choose
Any beer style will be accepted


Please label style of beer brewed,your name, email, and mailing address
for prizes to be sent to,any brewing notes attach to bottle with tape or rubber bands,unmarked beer will not be judged

we will use BJCP scoring guidelines


This is a Best of show contest the top 3 beers will be awarded respectively

Prizes will vary but will include some of the following

White Labs Yeast
T shirts and Pint Glasses
Coasters,posters
web cams,buttons,misc beer schwag.
Best of all Bragging rights for the "1st annual MR Beer kit challenge world champion"
which will include the official "I Brewed this beer on the shortbus" trophy!!!

Winning beers will be announced on the show,Sat Feb 19th

Entry fee: None ,but donations for The show are always needed
DUE DATE for entries FEB 12th 2011

Hmm. The Mr. Beer fermenter has been long neglected. Could be fun...

Hellz Yeah!
I don't have one of these, but they sell them at the neighborhood BevMo.
I'll have to use my monthly commercial beer allowance, but this is worth it.
Count me in for something wicked.

I know that this is just so you can score some plastic Mr. Beer Bottles.
Admit it.
You'll feel better.

Sounds like fun but I have some questions:
1. You state "other sugars" can be used. Can these be from malt?
2. Can I add additional hops?
3. Can I use whirlfloc?
4. Can I use gelatin?

I started with Mr. Beer years ago so this sounds like a lot of fun.

1.Yes you can steep grains or candi,brown,cane maple syrup ect
2. yes you can use additional hops if you choose
3.yes
4.yes

I would say use your best judgement on this one guys, the idea is to have some "mr beer" beers not a full blown decoction AG batch with a pinch of mr beer LME added.....And may the best Mr Beer win!
