Default At what stage do you add flavor?

I have been toying with doing a vanilla, or fruit addition to my mead. It's in the initial fermentation stage right now, been 3 days (2 days since yeast added).

At what point do I add flavor? Should I have already done that? If it's to late, I will just leave it alone, but if it's not to late I might drop a vanilla stick in there...or some other flavor.

Many here will advocate doing it exactly as you are - leaving any flavours until you rack to secondary.
