I wanted to get some input from you guys who have access to Deschutes brewery more regular than us mid-westerns. I love their Inversion brew and found the recipe from an internet search. I did change that recipe slightly by going to the Deschute website and seeing that they use a malt that I have not seen called Carasan. I replaced this with a combination of the (3) crystal's as listed below. I also use Maris Otter for my Pale so I cut it with some Pilsner, and threw in some wheat for head retention.

Just wanted to get your input before I try this one on Saturday. Thanks for your recommendations / suggestions in advance.

I did a Gordon Clone that called for it. Didnt have any and used a mix of 120, 40, and 20. This was for the darker Carastan. I dont think it was anything like the origional Gordon. Not sure if it was pilot error or if the mix I used was wrong. I had a can for comparision and while a good beer, didnt have the biscuty taste that Gordon had. Did you give the new shop in Mentor a call? I'm in columbus, so I've never used them , but they might have some, never kow.

I'm Smelling a lot of IF coming offa this plan

I think your recipe will taste good but I don't think it will taste much like Inversion. I love Maris and use it all the time but if you really want a clone I would use US 2-row for this. This beer is a fairly light malt taste without any of the biscuit flavor the MO is going to give it. Again I think it will make a good beer but I don't think it will be to close to Inversion.

Just my 2 cents - now go forth and brew

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm over on the west side so Mentor is kind of out of the way. Maybe next time.

I figured that the MO would contain a bit more malt than your standard US 2 Row. I've been making a couple of other IPA's but cutting them with the pilsner. It seems to lighten it up. The next 55 lber I buy will just be your standard US 2 Row. Sometimes you've got to use what you have.

Thanks again. I'll have to wait until my next trip out west to try the comparision. I wish I could find Inversion at my local beverage distributor, but maybe that's why I like it so much.
