Default Two quick questions.

How much 2 row do I need to convert 2# flaked wheat?

&

I need a 1.6L starter. Can I smack the pack, let it sit for a few hourse then pour into 1.6l of water in my half gal jug over night? Or will I have to start smaller then decant before stepping up?

Thanks!

Not sure on your first question. I do all-grain so I always have enough enzymatic power.

I've gone from a smack pack to a 1.5l starter no problem. The biggest I've done that with was 2l. Any bigger, and I'll step it up.

To make a starter make sure you boil in some DME with that water!

+1 pouring yeast in water doesn't make a starter. You need some starter wort to put it in so the yeast have some maltose to eat.

Woops! Yeah, I meant wort. Sorry, I actually do know what I am doing... for the most part.

Haha just wanted to make sure you weren't trying to rehydrate hydrated yeast!

I'd think that 2lbs should do it, but you'll want to mash until conversion is complete. Do an iodine test to make sure.

I'd use about 2 pounds of 2 row.
