Default Finish Bottom of Collar or Not?

Here's the dilemma... Oak Collar that will be stained and then clear coated with Spar Urethane... The bottom edge will be attached to the keezer with (probably) liquid nails. Should I leave the bottom edge unfinished for better adhesion, or should I clear coat it for better resistance to moisture? TIA!

I went ahead and put polyurethane on mine. The liquid nails still sealed just fine.

Yeah, I sealed mine to protect from moisture as well.
