I planted 6 rhizomes in the spring in large planters. Unfortunately I didn't treat them as well as I should have. A little dried up. Is it too early to cut the back and start over next spring or should I try to nurse them along for a while longer. When is the best time to cut back for the winter? I am in NW Arkansas and it is still in the 90's here. Been a really hot summer for us.

I would continue to treat and try to save. Your goal is to develop a good root system for your second and future years. By watering and feeding you will continue to do so. This is my 2 cent and by no means am I an expert.

Yep, the longer they are green, the more starches they send to the roots and the more roots they can grow. Keep nursing them along for as long as they will grow.

Just stay the course. Hops will die-back when it's time. Cut the dried-out bines and compost. In the Spring, they re-grow from the ground up.
