I brewed terrapin's rye pale ale and it turned out quite good; however i detect almost a lemony taste (not sour at all) or maybe more citrusy taste in the beer that i dont believe is in the original. Could it only be the hops??

I also tasted this with the centennial blonde that i brewed (which was my first all grain batch). The Rye Pale Ale is just over 4 weeks old (brewed on July 17th) I normally dont touch them for 6 weeks, but scared myself when reading about hops aroma fading in pale ales and ipas. Speaking of which how quickly does that fade?

it was fermented at 66 degrees in a fridge with a temp controller on it in a fridge.

What kind of yeast? Also hops? Best to give recipe.

no joy dish detergent. Everything was brewed on my outdoor keggle setup with a cooler mash tun.

After posting this i am now wondering if it is just the hops.

2 oz of Cascade is a lot at flameout. Not a bad thing, but it will be citrusy. Does it taste like grapefruit at all? All my beers with lots of amarillo thrown in at the end taste really grapefruity, in a good way.

It sounds like the hops. Everyones perception of what the hops bring is a bit different. But generally people taste some form of citrus with Amarillo, Cascade & Centennial (from your other beer). I would never get Lemon from those but certainly citrus, although my current mostly Centennial IPA is more floral which covers any citrus bite.

Some hop aroma can fade pretty fast, usually for me after 8 weeks or so. That's why I like kegging because I can always add some dry hops to balance it back towards the hop profile I want.

+1 it's the hops. Amarillo come through as incredibly juicy fruity to me, especially two ounces dry.

i must say that now that it has had time to mellow out a bit, it is phenomenal!!

This is 100% the best beer i have brewed. I am so excited to get my brewing where i needed it. Cant wait to try out all kinds of stuff now.
