I like to imagine what i want to taste the most from the hops and do that addition at 20-5 minutes, then from 5-ko and DH i throw in what i would like to smell. Makes sense to me.

I just made a pale with bittering and then a big flameout whirlpool hop addition. This beer has the biggest nose and brightest punch-in-the-face I've ever made. Might be because I got the perfect gravities or my pH in fantastic range, :shrug:. I'm to the point where my records aren't the best anymore and this wasn't a very quantitative experiment - but I'll be sticking to bittering and then a metric ****tonne of flameout hops.

Unless following someone else's recipe, I add my bittering charge as a FWH. I use pilsner as my base for all my beers due to availability here. So I'm boiling all brews for 90 minutes. The rest of my additions come after 15 minutes through DH. It means I have about 2 hours (slow to hit a boil) after sparging is complete to clean the mash tun and gear, ready a chiller, cook and eat a meal. It makes for a relaxed brewday. I haven't picked any vegetal or harsh flavors due to the long boil, but usually my FWH is only 10-15g.

Someday I'd like to do a side by side experiment comparing the FWH to a normal 60 minute addition, but that's quite a task since you are split from the lauter onward. Basically it requires 2 separate batches.
