Hi all....I've posted the links to some pics I took of my hop plant(Galena). I was wondering if the damage to the leaves could be due to extreme heat. We have had temps in the high 90's and even 100 the past couple of days. I noticed the damage on the evening of the 1st day of the heat wave. I don't see any insects on my plants at all...well, 1 or 2 but nothing to get excited about. What I don't understand is that if this damage to the leaves is due to the heat why didn't it effect the other 2 plants which are right next to this one. I would appreciate hearing any thoughts you all may have.
Thanks

I got a Cascade and a Nugget growing here on the island dealing with the same heat and neither have have that issue. The heat might have made the problem worse but I would guess there is something else at work here.

The Yakima Valley gets pretty darned hot - as long as that heat isn't sustained, I don't think that is your problem. ..that said, you do have your hops in smaller pots ...make sure they remain moist.

I would cut off the dead leaves at the point where you see green, put them in a plastic bag and throw them in the trash - just in case something else is going on.

My Cascades are wilting as well but only around the top 3 feet. The bottom 6 - 8 feet are fine. All my other plants are doing well.

Have you sprayed them with anything recently?
It kind of looks like Verticillium Wilt. Check here - http://plant-disease.ippc.orst.edu/d...m?RecordID=604

MaltPoet: Your problem might be different. His leaves are brown (next to perfectly good ones) ... but same thing for you ...make sure you have enough moisture (don't flood it).

If people have first year hops, the hops may be growing faster than the root system can supply water. Make sure you have the soil moist but not drowning.

water them AT LEAST once a day at those temps. With pots that small you may need to actually water them twice a day if the temps stay high

I've been watering them daily with this heat...I don't think I've been overwatering. I was guessing it was the heat only because the damage seemed to happen in just 8-9 hours.
