They were going to throw away an old oven brush at work. The handle was made of stainless and the brush was beech and brass. So I took it home and decided I'd take the brush off and re-purpose it as a grill brush (I'll weld up a handle for it tomorrow). I had other plans for the stainless handle!
Someone once told me that a true homebrewer looks at everything as potential brewing equipment.
Here's the mod...
The oven brush.
Brush taken off.
Cut a 10" section of 5/4 Rock Maple with my trusty Disston D-7 crosscut.
Then I took off the high spots with a Stanley #40 scrub plane.
Followed by a #5 jack and #7 jointer, to get it true.
Drew the paddle shape and roughed it in with the Disston D-8 ripsaw.
Drilled 3 holes, who knows why...
Sanded it, fitted it up and put pilot holes in place.
Put 2 stainless coarse thread screws in each side to hold the paddle.
There we go! Ready for a BIG mash tun!
