Default Lacto and Co2

Does Lacto give off CO2? I am fermenting out a Lacto starter and the airlock is bubbling.

The other thing that worries me is that the starter does not have the white "scum" layer on top. Last year about this time, I made a Lacto starter, and it had the white layer. See the pics here.http://www.homebrewtalk.com/attachme...014-large-.jpg

The scummy layer in the photo is a pellicle, not all sour starters/brews will form one. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
