This past weekend my friend came over with some beer from a small brewery in KY. The beer was called KY Bourbon Barrle Ale. Has anyone made a brew that would be similar to this, and how did it turn out? They don't put bourbon in the beer they just buy barrels from KY distilleries and ferment the beer in those.

Unless you're going to purchase a barrel (5 gallon barrels are hard to come by and pricey) then the only way to mimick the effect is with oak chips that have been soaked in whiskey for a few weeks.

Oak chips soaked in bourbon does a really good job. Midwest has a nice kit we've made a couple of times.

i generally soak chips for about 2-3 weeks and get a really great smoke flavor.
Primary: Ten Bells Pale Ale
Secondary: AIR
Tap: Red Headed Step Child Ale
On Deck: American IPA, Rasberry wit, Oatmeal stout
