My Gatos Locos barrel-aged imperial stout took 3rd in Old West category 22.

I don't think we even entered 9 beers. CHUG is the club.

Is this a contest?

Actually, it is.

A contest is an event in which two or more individuals or teams engage in competition against each other, often for a prize or similar incentive.
I think you're making up the "arbitrary decision" part.

Since CHUG isn't found on any of the NHC SW scorecards that I can see I was more curious as to whom was in his club and which were the advancing beers.

Oh yeah, we weren't even really a club when it was time to register. And we don't give half an ass about being the best or anything. I was just amused. I don't brew to flex my muscles or boost my ego, and while I like winning awards, I don't really spend a lot of time in the dick-out contest that is so prominent in these events. Brewing is fun and interesting and the best hobby ever. If I ever took myself too seriously because of it, I'd expect someone to smack me.

The addition of Zeplik's third place finish in the competitive IPA category puts the Northeast into double digits. Woo-Hoo!

What's up with that? Why is the NE so over represented?

Dunno, that's where most of the BN entrants were from too. I would assume brewers in that region like the internet a lot.

wierd how the largest group on HBT is the Michigan Mashers (399 members) and not one of them placed in the Great Lakes Region.
