I know that bulk aging, you want as little head space as possible to prevent oxidization. Sometimes it doesn't always work out that you can easily do this.

My question is, can I just purge any oxygen out of the carboy using my CO2 tank and be ok, even if the carboy is only half full?

I have heard of people putting down CO2 blankets, so yes.
