Has anyone found a clone recipe for this yet? I've googled and can't find anything. Wouldn't know where to begin to attempt a recipe on my own.

i know someone found this recipe , but i think its for the original barleywine version made by quilter when he worked at sierra nevada

I brewed up an imperial sweet stout that was an attempt to clone Irish Death, and came damn close. Even a bit green, it's frickin awesome, and so, so close to the Iron Horse brew (not the original barleywine).

Heres what I got:

6lbs Pale Malt (US 2-row)
2lbs Munich 10L
1lb Flaked Barley
8oz Flaked Oats
4oz Roasted Barley
4oz Carafa 2 Special

2lbs 8oz Light DME (added after boil)

6oz Fat Free Cocoa Powder (added to boil @ 10 minutes)
6oz Lactose (added to boil @ 10 minutes)

9AAU Fuggles @ 60 minutes
3AAU Styrian Goldings @ 60 minutes

Mashed at 156 degrees with a single step infusion
Double batch sparged, boiled down to a 5 gallon batch

Fermented on White Labs WLP002 English Ale yeast @ 68 degrees
I left it in the primary for 4 weeks, then bottled.

Thats what i used. I'm going to try cocoa nibs next time, with maybe some really dark chocolate.

FWIW, side by side, my clone and the original irish death, are very similar, but there are slight differences between them. They look and smell identical, but the original has more chocolate flavor, while mine has faint hints of mildly roasted coffee (underneath the chocolate). The SWMBO prefered mine in a blind taste test, too! woot!
