I've been watching Bobby M's videos on Beer Tools Pro and decided to calibrate my kettle and MLT for my brew today. It got me thinking about final volumes, so I'll ask anyone who may know:

My kettle has a little over half a gallon of deadspace below the ball valve that I put in my BTP calibration. When I set up a recipe for, say, 5 gallons, is the software accounting for that deadspace? In other words, if I want to collect 5 gallons in my fermentor, will the software adjust so I have 5.5 in my kettle at the end of the boil (leaving .5 behind below the valve when I drain it)? Or is that final volume number in BTP giving me the total volume in my kettle (including the .5 below the valve)?

The final volume figure seems to be what's in the kettle after chilling and kettle deadspace is not accounted for.

Good to know. Could I just scale up to account for that?

Yeah, if you want 5.25 in the fermenter and need to leave .5 in the kettle, set the batch final vol to 5.75.
