I am using White Labs British Ale yeast on a porter I brewed last weekend.

I took it out of my refrigerator to let it warm up a little, while I was just in the boil. Now, at this time, my drunken friend thinks a good idea to shake it all up.

Would that have any effect on how well the yeast performs? It was shaken about 45-60 minutes before added to the wort. It seemed like it was going along nicely, but when I went home for lunch today and checked on it, it seems like the yeast is not performing as well. My airlock does not seem to be bubling all that much, and I just brewed the beer on Saturday.

Any thoughts?

How slow is the activity?

Mine slowed to about 10 seconds or so on wednesday (sunday boil) and completely stopped by saturday.

I would say 10-12 is about right. Just seems slow. Maybe it is the style? All the other beers I have done seemed to stay at about half of that interval through mid week.

A lot of activity depends on the temp as well as the attenuation. No need to worry.
