Hey, i brewed my first batch a few days ago, at first the fermentation was very active, blew off the airlock, now there are no bubbles coming out of the airlock, the beer turned very cloudy, but now is starting to clear pretty well. Is it still fermenting ? its right at about 70 degrees.

Id leave it for 10 days or so... Let the yeast do their clean up work. Did you take a gravity reading?

It sounds like it's finishing up. Once it clears, that means that much of the suspended yeast has fallen out to the bottom. It really depends on what kind of yeast you've used, as some yeast strains are less likely to do that while others are very likely to flocculate. You'll probably have a nice compact yeast cake on the bottom in a week or two.

Take a gravity reading every day for 2 or 3 days. If it hasn't moved at all and it's an acceptable value, then it's done fermenting. However, you should definitely keep it in the bucket for at least another week. Freshly fermented beer needs time to condition.

whats the best / safest way to get beer out for a gravity reading? its in a carboy

A wine thief. Though, in a pinch, you could use your racking cane as a wine thief.

Or a sterilized turkey baster (worked for me).
