I have a question, or observation. I have two AB Kegs both with Bobby_M sight glasses. They both measure the same height and diameter. One 15 gallon mark is above the very top seam and the other is below it.

Is the bottom of either keggle distorted from it's normal shape? I have one keg that bulged out at the top and bottom like it was going to explode. That obviously throws off the capacity of the keg.

I was thinking the same thing, is there a dent anywhere in the one where the volume is higher?

I think the second one looks more accurate. Actually it looks like they are almost one gallon off at the 15 gallon mark. Did you use the same 1-gallon container to calibrate both? If not, one of them could be off by 1/15th of a gallon from the other. I'd trying weighing out 3 gallons of water with an accurate scale (8.345 pounds per gallon) and see if it shows up at the 3 line.

The only other thing I can think of is the vessels being significantly out of level during calibration. In other words, the one showing 14 being near the weld may have been leaning towards the sight.

Either one of those or both could affect it.

Well the table I had the second one on had a gangsta lean going on after I started filling it with water. I shimmed it up empty, but add water and it started leaning pretty bad. I didn't notice until the 15th gallon.

I'll order two more sets of stickers and do both at the same time.

I don't think it's the problem here, but keep thermal expansion in mind.

The expansion is about 4% between freezing and boiling.

So for an exaggerated example; if you measured a gallon of ice water and dumped it into a red hot keg, the water would expand and your mark would be off... 15 gallons, and your measurement would be off by 76 ounces (over half a gallon).

I guess to be more realistic, I'd suggest you might not want to measure 60f tap water, dump it into a keg baking in the sun, then mark. But even if you did, it would not result in the kind of difference in your pictures.

Default Website down!

Hey Bobby,

I'm looking to put in an order but I see the website is down (Bandwidth exceeded message). Will you be back online after the new year?

Edit: I see you addressed this in another post. I'll send you a PM.

Thanks,
