I searched and posted, but I felt the need to make a more direct query.

After trying SA winter lager, I am loving the dark wheat and a little crystal.


I am thinking Dark wheat in an imperial Stout.

Anyone tried this?

I have seen normal malted wheat in a stout, but this dark stuff is new to me.

I concocted a pretty damn good wheat porter recipe last winter that featured dark wheat. I'll dig it up if you're interested.

I did a Winter Wheat (Dark Belgian Wheat) that is coming along nicely. Use dark wheat in lieu the wheat and maybe a lighter Munich. Should be a good one.:

9 lbs Wheat Malt, Ger (2.0 SRM)
4 lbs Munich Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM)
4 lbs Pilsner (1.8 SRM)
8.0 oz Chocolate Wheat Malt (400.0 SRM)
8.0 oz Crystal Wheat Malt (66.0 SRM)
4.0 oz Caramunich 120 (120.0 SRM)
1.50 oz Hallertauer [4.30 %] (60 min) 20.6 IBU
0.75 oz Northern Brewer [8.50 %] (60 min) 20.4 IBU
1.25 oz Mt. Hood (Local) [4.00 %] (10 min) 3.2 IBU
1 Pkgs Belgian Ale (White Labs #WLP550)
1 Pkgs Belgian Ardennes (Wyeast Labs #3522)

FYI I'm pretty sure Sam's Winter Lager is considered a Bock.

No, why lager out that yummy dark wheat?

JUST KIDDING.

I do want the full flavored ale version of a stout or imperial stout, but with a heavy bill of dark wheat and crystal.
