Does anyone know of a website that provides a comprehensive list of malts and speciality grains that are used in brewing beer, and what each does with regards to:
- fermentables provided
- flavors imparted
- colors imparted
- etc.

I have the book "Designing Great Beers" which has some of this information, but I feel like there has to be a better source out there on this here internet thing. I've been brewing partial mash for a while now, getting ingredients and recipes from my local brew shop, and I'd like to start understanding more about what the ingredients in the recipes are doing.

It would also be great if the website gave sample recipes and broke down why each malt and grain was added to the recipe and what each was expected to do for the final product.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I don't have a website for you but there are good charts in the back of Beer Captured and How to Brew (I think).

I looked for some things like that at one point in time.

I happen to be a big fan of John Palmer's free online book, and his descriptions of malts and adjuncts starts on this page :

Not precisely what you want, but getting there.

A rather complete looking PDF

They have one on hops and meade too :
