Default Can I grow in these?

Can I grow my rhizomes in a plastic 5 gallon bucket of soil? I thought somewhere in the past I saw someone doing this, my only concern is drainage and if there is physically enough soil to sustain the plant.

i don't believe that is sufficient.. unless you want one bine? the setups i've come across for above-ground are ~20 gallons pots.

I was figuring on using half-barrel planters or maybe those big tubs with the rope handles. Then SWMBO and I could move them around at the start and end of the growing season.

those kids containers would work below-ground too.

Probably okay for the first year.

I used half barrels last year. They hold a lot of soil.
