I'm trying to harvest some yeast from a bottle of Hacker Pschorr HefeWeizen. I stirred up the sediment from the bottom of the bottle and put it in a small starter (1 cup with yeast nutrients) 4 days ago and haven't see anything happen. This is my first time trying to harvest yeast from a bottle.

Has anyone harvested this yeast before?

I think I will check the gravity of the starter tonight and see if there has been any progress then maybe increase the size of the starter. Any other advice?

Chances are it's a lager yeast they put at bottling time.

Yep. The breweries that make German Hefewiezen filter out their ale yeast and bottle condition with a lager yeast. I'd just get a smack pack of Wyeast 3068 Weihenstephan Weizen and make a starter from that...

They pretty much all have the same practice, but there are exceptions.
