Default Big starter/less vials or little starter/more vials?

Looking at MrMalty.

To save $ do you folks make a large starter w/less vials? Or do you feel more comfortable making a smaller starter w/more vials?

Personally, I always start with one and then step up to a larger and larger size starter.
