I stepped on mine. Don't ask me what it was doing in the middle of the floor. I still have no idea.

+1 however many that is 763. I was being so careful too. Cleaning up, washing stuff after pitching, etc. Very carefully put the clean hydrometer on a towel to dry, continued to wash and leaned a plate up against the pot I had there draining........and it teetered and fell over........on the hydrometer. Sigh.

This is awesome. I just found this thread. If I only knew about this since the beginning. I've lost count, and finally gave up and got a refractometer. But I know I broke 2 last year. So +2 for last year, 765.

Primary: Pale Ale
Secondary: Gint's Two Kidney Ale, Oktoberfest, Conway's Irish Ale Clone, Shiraz
Bottled: Apfelwein, Green Apple Reisling
Kegged:Phat Tyre

getting a $30 refractometer off of ebay was one of the better brewing purchases i've made in the last year. some things like a chiller and temp control will improve the quality of your beer, and folks should probably invest in those first. a refract falls into the "makes life easier" category. i can't imagine brewing without one now.
What hops should I grow? Looking for cheap honey?

Drinking: black harvest ale (wet-hopped with homegrown hops), local sour cherry kriek, oud bruin, gueuz'ish thing, saison bottled with ECY34
Fermenting/carbing: IPA w/ HBC-438 (thanks vinnie!), 2x saison w/ 3726, Ardennes BDSA
Aging: witbier with brett, TYB saison brett blend, Tripel'ish with brett, sour cherry mead, rye sour ECY20/ECY34 split, several other sours, acerglyn, and probably some stuff i've lost track of...
