Spent a week week in London earlier this month, and I must have tried about 10 or 15 different real ales over the course of the week. I have to say that I am definitely torn on the style.

I love the malty/nutty flavor of the real ales. In fact, I got back to the states and immediately went to the Decatur beer festival where I was definitely missing the malt character of the Brit ales.

That being said, I wish they were cold. Don't get me wrong. I'm not afraid of a cool beer. It's more like I'd rather get it cold, drink it slowly, and taste it as it opens up over a half hour or so.

Anyway, enough of that. Now that I'm home I can brew my own and serve it at whatever temp I want. Up this weekend will be my Earl's Court Winter warmer:

11 lb Maris Otter
1 lb Crystal 60
.5 lb Crystal 20

1oz Fuggle 60
1 oz EKG 15
1 oz Fuggle 15
1 oz EKG 5

Wyeast London ESB yeast
5.5 gallons
