Why do most pear wine recipes call for raisins? Do they just add sweetness? Should one omit the raisins if they are shooting for a dryer wine? Thanks

they add tannins and extra nutrients for the yeast to munch on.
Primary: 5 gal Joe's Ancient Orange Mead

Secondary: 5.5 gal Apfelwein variation, 1 gal Dandelion Metheglin

Bottled/Aging: Strawberry Wine, Brandon O's Graff
