Default Refractometer reading after carbonation?

Are refractometer readings impacted by carbonation?

In other words, is there any reason why a brix reading for a bottle-contitioned and bubbly beer would be off for purposes of calculating ABV? (Assuming OG is known and you run it through the typical computations.)

don't know, but it should be easy to figure out. take a carbonated sample and split it...swirl the carbonation out of one portion, not the other and check. and let us know the answer.

i'll do it tonight if i think about it when i get around to a beer (shouldn't be long now)

no difference....2.5 volumes vs flat...both 1.025.

Refracts only measure the refraction of light through a liquid, carbonated or not, it will be accurate.

Thanks Buzz, thats useful to know.

I was thinking that bubbles (microbubbles) between the plastic and glass would through off the measurement. Guess not.
