Default first partial mash, help with recipe.

This will be my 10th batch, i've done 9 batches extract and steeping grain and they have been getting better and better. i want to start mashing and taking steps at a time.

i would like to make BM's Outer Limits IPA, but its an AG recipe. i was thinking of making the partial mash and using deathbrewers method of partial mashing.

So anyway, enough talk. Here it tis.

Batch Size: 5.50 gal
Boil Size: 8.13 gal
Estimated OG: 1.075 SG
Estimated Color: 12.8 SRM
Estimated IBU: 61.1 IBU
Brewhouse Efficiency: 75.0 %
Boil Time: 75 Minutes

Original Ingredients:
------------
11.00 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM)
1.75 lb Munich Malt (9.0 SRM)
1.00 lb Honey Malt (25.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80.0 SRM)

My Version

4 lb Light DME
2 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM)
1.75 lb Munich Malt (9.0 SRM)
1.00 lb Honey Malt (25.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM)
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80.0 SRM)

0.75 oz Nugget [13.00%] (60 min) (First Wort Hop)
0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.90%] (45 min)
0.50 oz Centennial [10.00%] (30 min)
0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.90%] (15 min)
0.50 oz Cascade [7.80%] (10 min)
0.50 oz Cascade [6.10%] (5 min)
0.50 oz Centennial [10.00%] (0 min)

.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.90%] (Dry Hop 7 days)
.50 oz Centennial [10.00%] (Dry Hop 7 days)
.50 oz Glacier [5.60%] (Dry Hop 7 days)

does this sound good.

By my calculations, you need to increase the DME from 4 lbs to about 5.5 lbs to reach the correct OG.

You're replacing 9# Maris Otter which produces 38 pppg at 100%, so at 75% efficiency it produces 9 * 38 * .75 = 256 gravity units.
The substitute is DME which produces 46 pppg with 100% efficiency, so 256 / 46 = 5.5

I would have thought that qbrew could have done that calculation, but perhaps the efficiency % was set to less than 75% If the efficiency was set to 53%, it should calculate 4# DME.

5 lbs DME would be about right for 70% efficiency, but the AG recipe was based on 75% efficiency.
