Is there any reason a temperature controller like this would not work for a refrigerator fermentation setup? Or even to control the fans in a son of fermentation chilller? It was about $35 I think at Menard's near my home.

Lux - Programmable Thermostats: WIN100

Thanks,
Scott

Wow, that seems like a good deal. As long as your fridge doesn't draw more than 15 amps, and I can't see why it would, you are good. You would need to get the thermowell in the fridge somehow.

Yeah, there is probably a thermistor chip on the circuit board so you would want to de-soldier it and put it on a wire to extend it into the fridge.

See: ENGINERDIA: Fermentation Temperature Controller about half way down the page to get an idea.

I've been using one of those for quite a while. I love it and highly recommend it!

Only goes down to 45. No good for lagering... and quite a few styles of beer in a kegerator.

So just disable the controller and use the fridge's built-in thermostat when you need to go colder than 45.

Has anyone tried these?: Freezer Conversion Thermostat - Remote Bulb Freezer Conversion Thermostat [Thermostat - Port-Ext-8] - $35.00 : CHI Company ball lock kegs for sale, Home brewing and vending, beer kegs, Pepsi vending machines, flavor strips and vending labels

This would go to as low a temperature as you could need, and costs the same.

I don't have one yet but the lux also has a temp offset setting of up to 5 degrees, so I would think you could offset 45 to 50 and get it to go down to an actual temp of 40 which is just about right.

Also the lux has a remote thermo probe already on a short wire, you should only need to extend the prob into the freezer.

Just saw that amazon has these on sale for ~$30 with free shipping.

Should be a nice cheap controller for anyone that needs one.
